David Waxman – Managing Director - Private Equity, Venture Capital & Executive Management Expertise

David Waxman has over 18 years experience as a Private Equity Advisor, Venture Capital Fund General Partner and High-tech Entrepreneur and CEO.

Prior to forming Azla Advisors, Mr. Waxman served as a Managing Director of Equip Ventures Advisory Group, where he advised Institutional Limited Partners on the divestment of a number of portfolios on the secondary market, including the divestment of Corning’s Venture Capital arm (CIV) and the divestment of IDB’s and Clal Holdings’ LP Interests, as well as advising on a number of other secondary market divestment transactions that are under NDA. At Equip’s Advisory Group, he also advised several early stage ventures in raising capital from later stage Venture Capital Funds and several General Partners on raising capital from the LP community. Mr. Waxman’s quarterly newsletter, Equip’s Insights, has been widely read throughout the Private Equity community. He maintains broad and deep relationships with Secondary Funds, Limited Partners & General Partners and the Private Equity, Buyout and Venture Capital communities.

Mr. Waxman served from 2001-2006 as a General Partner at Equip Ventures early stage venture capital Fund which he founded, raised capital, led a number of early stage investments and served as Interim CEO, Board Member and Advisor to the CEO for several of Equip’s portfolio companies, including Wasabi Systems, Aspeed Software and eZore Systems (formerly DropZone Networks).

Prior to forming Equip Ventures with Mark Goros, one of the co-founders of Broadvision and early team members at Oracle, Mr. Waxman served as an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at SAS Investors, a seed fund backed by Sevin Rosen, Canaan Partners and Rho Management. He has also served as the Chairman and CEO of two early stage startups which he founded, raised VC funding, scaled up and exited - CompassWare Development and GiftWorld.com.

After receiving an MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University’s Stern School of Business Stern School in 1990, where he continues to serve as a guest lecturer, Mr. Waxman spent several years as an Investment Banker and Private Equity Investor at the Castle Group. Mr. Waxman also received a BS degree with Honors from Yeshiva University in 1986 and a CPA from the State of New York.

Mr. Waxman is married with four children and assists his community board and a number of several non-profit organizations. He has led several mountaineering expeditions including one in the Karakoram Himalaya and is a published travel writer and nature photographer. In his spare time he enjoys teaching his children history, skiing and camping.
